About Kelly
Kelly Sutliff, MA, LPC, NCC, ACS
As a licensed professional counselor, I am passionate about helping clients. I find meaning and personal fulfillment in assisting clients as they navigate life’s challenges and obstacles. The most fulfilling part of my work is to witness and experience clients make positive changes in their lives and to attain the personal growth that they are striving for.
I consider myself an interactive and integrated therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help individuals effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complimentary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion, understanding, and humor, I work with each individual to help build on his or her strengths.
I have extensive experience assisting individuals dealing with a variety of issues. Some of the areas I specialize in include trauma (working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault), depression, anxiety, family conflict, relationship issues (such as working with survivors of narcissistic abuse and divorce), and women’s issues.
I graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2005 with a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Counseling/Psychology. With 20 years of experience as a licensed professional counselor, I have spent nearly 15 of those years in private practice. I am licensed in the state of New Jersey as a Licensed Professional Counselor (#37PC00402700) and Substance Awareness Counselor. I am also a National Certified Counselor (#271032) and an Accredited Clinical Supervisor (#1364). In addition to the professional licenses that I hold, I spent over 5 years as an adjunct professor at Kean University in the Counselor Education Program and at the College of Saint Elizabeth in the Graduate Programs in Psychology. I also supervise associate counselors pursuing their state licensure.
I spend much of my free time running a nonprofit organization that I founded called Kelly’s K9s, Tails of Courage where we provide survivors of domestic violence with trained protection dogs. Ever since enduring my own domestic violence incident in December of 2019, and getting into protection dog training because of the trauma I experienced, it has become my life’s mission to support and to advocate for survivors and their safety. The remainder of my free time is typically spent with my own dogs, training them as personal protection dogs and training them to compete in Schutzhund trials.
